“My Swan Song Years: From College Radio Kid to Zeppelin’s Mailman”

A true story about passion, persistence — and a once-in-a-lifetime break.

In the early 1980s, I was just a college student running my university’s radio station when one unexpected opportunity changed everything.

What started as a routine visit to record labels in Manhattan turned into an internship — and then a job — at Swan Song Records, the label Led Zeppelin built.

I went from hauling stacks of vinyl back to campus… to shipping Zeppelin’s final album Coda, working under Peter Grant’s watch, meeting the guys and being one of the first to hold that record before the world heard it.

It wasn’t glamorous — I stuffed envelopes, carried duffel bags, and mailed promo records by hand — but it taught me how legends are built from the ground up.

Decades later, my daughters (now in their own band, The Ruffles) inspired me to finally write it all down. And just recently, something incredible happened…

💥 The official Led Zeppelin website featured my story — calling it a vivid glimpse into their history.

For a lifelong fan, that was surreal.

If you’ve ever chased a dream, carried the gear, or done the grunt work to be part of something bigger — this story’s for you.
